First Holy Communion Prayers, Poems and Bible Verses
First Communion Prayers
My Lord Jesus Christ,
I firmly believe that I am
about to receive, in Communion,
Your Body, Your Blood, Your
Soul and Your Divinity.
I believe it because You have
said it, and I am ready to give
my life to maintain this truth.
The Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace!
The Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
When you said,
"Let the children come to me,"
I'm, sure you meant me.
Today, I want to come to You
with my love, my friendship, my
problems, and my dreams.
Help me not to be selfish. Help
my teachers to be patient with me.
Bless my parents, my grand-
parents, and my whole family.
Most of all, help me not to forget
that You are my best friend and
that I am Your child forever.
First Communion Poems
"Bread of the world, in mercy broken,
Reginald Heber (1783 - 1826)
Wine of the soul, in mercy shed,
By whom the words of life were spoken,
And in whose death our sins are dead:
Look on the heart by sorrow broken,
Look on the tears by sinners shed;
And be Thy feast to us the token
That by Thy grace our souls are fed."
"Lord Jesus Christ, pierce my soul with your love
so that I may always long for you alone, who
are the bread of angels and the fulfillment of the soul's deepest
desires. May my heart always hunger for you, so that
soul may be filled with the sweetness of your presence"
Saint Bonaventure (1221 - 1274)
Remember how He broke the loaf made from golden wheat,
And said, "This is my body. Take this bread and eat."
Remember how the sun-ripe grapes taken from the vine
Became a cup of blessing: "Take and drink this wine."
Remember how a cross of wood became a symbol of
Christ's giving of himself to us-the greatest kind of love.
Remember Jesus' love for you today as you receive
His bread of life, His cup of grace... Remember and believe!
First Communion Bible Verses
1 Corinthians 11:23-26 (ESV)
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.
Matthew 26:26-29 (ESV)
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, "Take, eat; this is my body." And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom."
Mark 14:22-25 (ESV)
And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, "Take; this is my body." And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And he said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."
